The Paryavaran Mitra schools from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar carried out awareness activities on digital payments on January 12, 2017 (also observed as National Youth Day every year to commemorate the birthday of Swami Vivekanand) coordinated by CEE North. Around 19 schools from Lucknow, Bahraich, Allahabad, Saharanpur, Amethi and Lakihmpur Kheri participated in the campaign. Around 155 students from Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich were taught about digital payments through by the branch managers of nationalised banks during a lecture organised for them in their schools.
Around 85 students from 17 schools participated and took the initiative to educate the support staff in their school and people in their community about digital payments. The students prepared presentations and taught people about carrying out digital payments through their smart phones and also the basic phones, each participating student reached out to 10 people through the day.
The CEE team also conducted awareness events with the schools at Lucknow, Bareilly and Bettiah in which 470 students and 5 teachers participated, where they were given demonstrations on digital payments with BHIM application. Taking this opportunity, the students also organized awareness rallies and competitions in their schools where around 180 students from 4 schools from Mirzapur, Allahabad, Saharanpur and Bareilly participated.
The CEE team also set up a counter at Baundi village, Bahraich for the community and were able to reach out to 30 people. The CEE team educated the participants about the BHIM app, understanding the use of *99# USD code and the basics of digital payments.
