CEE Goa organizes workshop for Range Forest Officers in Panaji

CEE Goa State Office has been appointed as an External Evaluation Agency by the Goa Forest Department, Government of Goa, to carry out evaluation of CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation fund Management and Planning Authority) activities conducted by all divisions of the Goa Forest Department.

To start with, CEE Goa organised a workshop for the Range Forest Officers (RFOs) on 15th January 2014, at Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto Panaji. Inaugurated by Shri S K Agarwal IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, the workshop oriented the RFOs on the evaluation processes and formats.

Hon. Chairman, CEE Governing Council, Dr. Ashok Khosla addressed the group and gave a presentation on ‘Conservation and Management of India’s Forest Wealth on the Scale of Landscapes’, where he discussed the concept of REDD Plus. The presentation was well received and appreciated by all.

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) is an effort to create a financial value for the carbon stored in forests, offering incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands and invest in low-carbon paths to sustainable development. "REDD+" goes beyond deforestation and forest degradation, and includes the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks.
