A two-day Regional Workshop for North Eastern Region (NER) of India on Climate Adaptation Programme and Sustainable Ecosystems was organized by State Climate Change Cell of Manipur, Directorate of Environment, Government of Manipur and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), Government of India on 25-26 April 2016 at Imphal.
The workshop focused on common understanding about the challenges faced by the NER and a road map for participation in policy action programmes on climate adaptation aligning with National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE) and National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (NMSKCC).
The dignitaries present were Shri Shambhoo Singh, Additional Chief Secretary and Shri I. Hemochandra Singh, Minister, Forest & Environment, Government of Manipur; Dr M. Homeshawar Singh, Director and State Nodal Officer (Climate Change), Directorate of Environment, Manipur; Dr Shirish Sinha, Deputy Director of Cooperation, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Embassy of Switzerland and Dr Nisha Mendiratta, Director , Climate Change Programme, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
Dr Abdhesh Kumar Gangwar, Programme Director, CEE Himalaya & CEE North-East was invited as the resource person to make a presentation on “Community participation in climate change adaptation- Role of local institutions, NGOs, Media etc and experience sharing”.
The inputs and conclusions drawn from the workshop will aid in designing the implementation of State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCC) and enhancing climate change knowledge networking at state level. As an outcome of this regional workshop, Government of Manipur will be giving responsibility to CEE for organizing state wide teacher trainings. The responsibility of organizing a media workshop for local journalists of Manipur is also being given to CEE.
