Round Table Conference on ‘Status of Environment Education in India’

   
 
 
   

The round table conferences on ‘Status of Environment Education in India', held at Guwahati and Imphal on April 11 and 18, 2017, was inaugurated by Dr. A. K Misra, Director, Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC); and Dr. Ranjana Devi, Director, Institute of Cooperative Management respectively. Officials from The State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT), Assam State Education Board (SEBA), Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Directorate of Environment, schools, research scholars, and NGOs attended the conferences. Fr. (Dr.) Walter Fernandez S.J., North Eastern Social Research Centre; Dr. Wazir Alam, Assistant Professor, Manipur Central University; Dr. Simanta Kalita, Senior Programme Coordinator, CEE; and Mr. Jaison Varghese, Associate Programme Coordinator, CEE moderated and facilitated the sessions.

The conferences put forwarded various recommendations such as expansion of Eco-clubs in more schools with the support of State Governments; provide adequate training to teachers on Environment Education; link the eco-clubs to Swachh Bharat Mission at village level; develop school level Bio-diversity Register; provide Environment Education among out of school going children through Children Science Congress; promote nutritional kitchen garden at schools; formation of regional level Earth Day Network; promotion of Civic Education along with Environment Education; provide incentives to the students who enroll and actively worked in Eco-Clubs; as well as acknowledge the teachers who are coordinating the eco-clubs by giving ‘ Best Teachers Award' and more.
