Assam Science Technology and Education Council (ASTEC), the state NGC nodal agency with support from CEE North East as the resource agency selected nodal NGOs for districts in November 2016. These 27 NGOs will coordinate programmes and monitor activities in the respective districts.
A programme for orienting the district coordinators of the selected nodal NGOs was conducted by ASTEC on December 14, 2016. The programme started with a brief introduction of the participants and the programme. A presentation on ‘NGC and Role of Resource Agency' was shared by CEE. This was followed by an in depth discussion about the ground level implementation of the programme. Guidelines and formats for smooth implementation and reporting were also distributed to the partners. Dr. Arup Kumar Mishra, Director; Dr. Jaideep Baruah, Head (Environment Division); and Dr. Chandra Barooah, Scientific Officer of ASTEC and Himashree Bhattacharyya, CEE North East were present for the orientation programme.
National Green Corps (NGC) is a nationwide initiative and flagship programme of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India. The programme is operated through Eco-clubs set up in schools registered as members of NGC. Centre for Environment Education (CEE) is the resource agency for 15 states and Union Territories in the country. In Assam, 5407 school eco-clubs are part of the NGC network.
