World Environment Day – ‘Go Wild For Life’

Over 1000 environment enthusiasts participated in the World Environment Day celebrations, held at CEE Ahmedabad, on 5 th June, 2016.

In partnership with S&P Global Finance , an array of activities, including games, competitions and fun pursuits, were conducted, all along the lines of promoting the WED theme for 2016 – ‘Go Wild for Life – Zero Tolerance for the Illegal Wildlife Trade'. So while the nature trail gave a glimpse of the surrounding habitat to the participants, games like snakes & ladders, break the pyramid and circuit board, enthused in them a sense of appreciation for our surroundings. The treasure hunt kept the participants on tenterhooks, trying to decipher the clues and finding the treasure, while the Kudo-Ludo game focusing on waste segregation, E-painting, Origami, face painting and tattoo making, the exhibition wall by Marishala - Rajpur, clay modelling and the puppet show, attracted the children, youth and adults alike. In an effort to promote self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship in a sustainable way, children were encouraged to be part of the traditional food and interactive stalls.

Posters depicting the threat to wildlife species effectively communicated the urgent need for their conservation, even as various competitions, including poem writing, poster making and slogan writing, saw the participants at their innovative best!

The screening of environmental movies was another hit with the kids, who diligently sat through the sessions – curious to know about the threat each of us face! As a precursor to the celebrations, CEE had also organised a night camp, which witnessed active participation from kids across various age groups.

A packed auditorium witnessed loud cheers for the skit performed by the young participants of CEE's Summer Workshop. The games of Quizzola and Pandora were well-received, and the celebrations culminated with the prize-distribution ceremony to reward the winners of various competitions.

A large team of volunteers and CEE staff facilitated the conducting of activities, and sensitised the participants towards initiating action for the conservation of environment. Employees of S&P Global Finance also volunteered in facilitating the activities.

As part of WED 2016 celebrations, activities were organised at the various field and regional offices of CEE, across India. For more, read.
