Monsoon Camp at Pavagadh – Champaner
During 5-6 August, a group of 18 members participated in the monsoon camp at Pavagadh – Champaner. The group departed from Ahmedabad in the afternoon of 5 August to reach Pavagadh in the evening. The monsoon magic overwhelmed the participants from the moment they got down from the bus, and cameras went clicking. The ropeway cabins seemed to be suspended high in the sky and the portion further up seemed lost in the thick mist.
An orientation meeting briefed the members about the history of Pavagadh and then discussed the next day’s programme. Night brought more torrential rain accompanied by nature’s very own light and sound show.
Next day, the group, not deterred by the rains, followed the planned programme and went up the mountain with ankle deep water almost cascading down the steps. At the top, the Chhasiyu and Dhudhiyu lakes – apparently named on the basis of their appearance – were overflowing. The mist, accompanied with strong winds, made the visibility very poor and hence the group decided to return.
Later in the day, the group went to Champaner – a world heritage sight, where they visited seven arches, a mosque and the fort.
