Desert Environment- Awareness and Education Programme

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2006, and in line with the theme ‘Deserts and Desertification’, CEE launched a Desert Environment – Awareness and Education Programme, on 5 June at Jaipur. Mr. Laxmi Narain Dave, Minister for Environment, Forests and Mines and Ms. Rukmani Haldia, Principal Secretary, Department of Environment, Forests and Mines, Government of Rajasthan, inaugurated the programme and released a set of three posters developed by CEE. The programme is being supported by Department of Environment, Government of Rajasthan and Rajasthan Pollution Control Board and will be of one year duration ending on 5 June 2007.

The programme has been launched on the National Green Corps (NGC) platform and will cover 3000 schools in 12 desert districts of Rajasthan. CEE will be the resource agency for development of material (a set of three posters developed for WED, a handbook for teacher and a field guide on flora and fauna for students), training of master trainers and documentation of the project.

Bharat Scouts and Guides, the nodal agency for the NGC programme in Rajasthan, will coordinate the implementation of the project including school level activities and action projects.
