Distribution of sports goods items in tsunami affected area

CEE joined hands with the Nagapattinam district administration in their initiative of diverting the attention of the residents of temporary shelters from the tsunami tragedy by introducing sports programmes. CEE distributed sports goods worth over Rs. 5 lakh to 58 temporary shelters at an event on May 11, 2005 at District Sports Stadium, Nagapattinam in association with the District Sports Authority, Nagapattinam.

District Collector Dr. J. Radhakrishna, I A S and the Additional Collector (Relief and Rehabilitation), Mr. Ranvir Prasad I A S were the chief guests who distributed the sports goods to leaders and youth representatives of the temporary shelters.The Additional Collector commended the efforts of CEE in providing sport goods, which was the need of the hour for trauma relief. The District collector requested the people living in temporary shelters to utilize these sports materials to promote their innate talents.

This activity was done as part of the rehabilitation initiatives of CEE in the tsunami affected villages of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry with support of Intermon Oxfam. CEE has initiated a multisectoral rehabilitation programme in 48 Tsunami affected villages.
