Video on Community Managed Water and Sanitation

CEE is working with 28 villages in Bhavnagar District Gujarat focusing on institutions and their capacity building, and implementation of awareness programmes for women, men and children on water care, sanitation and hygiene under the Community Managed Ghogha Regional Water Supply and Sanitation Project. Village Water Committees take up the task of constructing the in-village water supply systems as well as water resource management structures such as check dams, pond deepening etc.

A video has been developed on the process and provides visual information about the work carried out in the village, including the construction of the overhead water tank, the sump, pump room, cattle troughs, water stand posts etc.

The video also includes interviews with women sharing their concerns and future benefits from the newly constructed water supply systems.

It has also looked at sanitation issues and brings out ground level concerns. For instance, in response to the question on why the villagers dump dung just outside the home, men stated that the farmlands are far away and it is not possible to go and dump the dung every day. They also stated that the Village Water Committee did give them notices to remove the dung heaps but the distance to the farmland is the major issue. School children also shared their views on how they had learnt about water care, sanitation and hygiene for their own health.

This video has been shown through the village dish connections. The video had a repeat value because it showed people from the village itself. It also provided an opportunity for the community to view their own - known people on the television screen.
