A three day event, ‘Prakriti ane Swasthya- Bal Samvaad’, was organized as a joint effort by CEE (under the National Green Corps (NGC) and Prakriti programmes) and Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation, supported by the MoEF, British Gas India and Gujarat Gas Company Ltd. (GGCL), from 28 February to 1 March 2008.  Indroda Nature Park further facilitated the main theme of the event- Child Health and Environment. The broad theme was linked to various other themes like biodiversity, water and sanitation, climate change, energy, land, pollution (indoor and outdoor), food and nutrition, lifestyle, sustainable development.

The main aim of the event was to bring together eco-clubs from all over the State on one platform, showcase their work, and to spread awareness about linkages between Environment and Health through various media like competitions, workshops, exhibitions etc. Mr. P.N. Roy Chowdhary, Principal Secretary, Govt. of Gujarat, Forests & Environment Dept. (Wildlife) inaugurated the event. The event saw participation of 70 schools from the State with 207 students, 73 teachers and 104 Master Trainers. The event was visited by around 9,800 people during three days.

Children’s workshops were held on topic related to Environment and Health like Disaster Management, Health and Nutrition, Air Pollution, Health Curriculum etc. Many other parallel activities took place like treasure hunt, bird watching, canvas painting, pottery, face painting, memory games, snakes and ladders, etc. Various competitions were organized for students as well as teachers. Students actively participated in essay, elocution, painting and quiz competitions, while teachers took part in the extempore competition. Master Trainers’ capacity building workshop was woven into the whole event and a field visit was organized for them on the last day of the event. Exhibitions were also put up by 17 organisations like CHETNA, UNICEF, WASMO, GPCB etc. The Prakriti Bus exhibition was also opened up for the students, teachers and visitors from schools and organisations.

The event concluded with a valedictory and prize distribution ceremony. The canvases painted by the students were presented to the guests at the valedictory session.
