Summer Programme for Children at DéCee
As
part of DéCee, CEE’s Information and Facilitation Centre,
a month long summer programme was organized for the
children of age group 10 to 13 yrs. The programme started
from
5th
May 2008. The Programme was structured in such a way that
a child could enroll for a week, two weeks or for the
whole month. Each week was having a theme around which
activities were focused. Children from Schools like DPS
Bopal, Anand Niketan School, ASIA English School, St.
Xaviers Loyella, Xaviers Mirzapur, Eklavya, Rachana, SKUM
School, Zydus School for Excellence, Mahatma Gandhi
International School, Prakash, Kendriya Vidhyalaya, Udgam
and
Mount
Carmel
Convent
School
enrolled for the
programme.

Theme
for the first week was Waste Management and the activities
included learning about types of waste, garbage detectives,
segregation of waste, trip to AMC office, interaction with
waste collector & pastiwala, how to make a compost
pit, script writing for puppet show, making puppets, trip to
paper recycling plant, best out of waste and film screening.
The
second week focused on Air and included learning about
functions and uses of air, different experiments on air,
collage making, air pollution check at home, games on air,
interviews with the traffic police, visitors at malls etc.,
story writing, theme painting, card making, creative writing
on air, straw painting, origami, and lots more.
The
third week for the summer programme was focusing Water which
included learning about importance of water to all lives,
estimating water wastage through water audit, understanding
the importance of water conservation, heritage
structures of water harvesting, importance of water for
hygiene and sanitation, communicating water messages through
poster making and enjoying the pond songs.
Natures
Creatures was the topic for the fourth week which had the
focus on biodiversity and wildlife. The week had activities
like nature trail, treasure hunt game, visit to Manek
Baug, visit to the zoo, mask making, animal court skit,
fun activities on nature, clay modeling, film screening,
slide shows, learning to make bulletin board and lo ts
more. Two special days were offered to the children who
enrolled for the summer programme. These two ‘Healthy Fun’
days were the day when children who had enrolled for any of
the week could join. On day 1 children brought home cooked
food which they thought was healthy and day 2 was sports day
where they indulged in various outdoor games.
Valediction was organized on
4th
June 2008 for the participants of the summer programme. Smt.
Mrinalini Sarabhai graced the occasion by giving away the
certificates to the children and sharing her experiences as
to how the CEE campus became so green. Children organized
puppet shows for the audience.
