Centre for Environment Education (CEE) is a centre
of excellence in Environment Education (EE) of the MoEF. CEE has been
engaged in developing programmes and material to increase awareness
about the environment and sustainable development. CEE’s primary
objective is to improve public awareness and understanding of the
environment with a view to promoting the conservation and sustainable
use of nature and natural resources, leading to a better environment and
a better quality of life.
The WED is one of the
significant environmental days observed by CEE to spread awareness about
the environment. CEE’s Regional Offices in Delhi, Pune, Lucknow,
Guwahati and Bangalore, and various State offices across India and
overseas offices in Australia and Sri Lanka observe WED.
In CEE Ahmedabad, 5 June is an Open Day. People,
young and old, come to the Centre and spend the day on campus. CEE sets
up various activities and events on the campus to spread awareness about
environment, nature appreciation, encouraging environment-friendly
habits and highlighting the WED theme for the year.
CEE has
been observing World Environment Day since its inception in 1984.
