Healthcare Establishment Waste Management and Education Programme - Palakkad:
CEE Kannur undertook a project for IMA, Kerala State Branch as knowledge partner for its Project IMAGE (IMA Goes Ecofriendly), to set up a common treatment facility (CTF) at Kanzikode, Palakkad district, to cater to four districts—Kozhikode, Thrissur, Malappuram and Palakkad.

CEE’s role was to sensitize the HCE doctors and medical superintendents, and to train personnel like nurses, ward boys and cleaning staff. The phase of sensitization was over in seven places in the four districts.

CEE also found a lacuna in the original training plan, which envisaged four or five representatives of each affiliated hospital gathering at a place for training, and in turn training other staff in their respective hospitals. Moreover, proper waste management would be largely dependent on the commitment of the representatives initially trained.

The volunteers visit each affiliated hospital, ensuring customized training to each according to its specific needs and resources. It gives CEE the option of monitoring the operation of the programme.
