CEE's work in environment education (EE) and education for sustainable development (ESD) has been recognized both nationally and internationally.

|
|
- The Centre for Environment Education received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2009 Stratospheric Ozone Layer Protection Award under Organization/Association category for providing leadership in ozone layer protection globally.This award places CEE among some of the world's most accomplished organizations working to protect the Earth's Ozone layer.
- CEE received “The India NGO Award 2007” for the western region (joint) in the large scale NGO category. The Award is a joint initiative of the Resource Alliance and the Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation, with an aim to advance the country’s non-profit sector by promoting financial and organisational sustainability, and strengthening community support of civil society. CEE was conferred the award on 5 march 2008, in New Delhi.
- Centre for Environment Education (CEE) receives ‘The 2007 Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards for Good Practices' , Silver Prize, by the Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development (APFED).
- On 22 April 2007 , CEE has been adjudged to be a member in good standing in the fellowship of Good Green Governance. CEE was awarded with “Srishti Good Green Governance Award 2006"
- CEE was awarded the Global level award for its ‘Outstanding Service to Environmental Education' by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) for the year 2005
- In October 2005, it was awarded the ‘Plasticon 2005 Award' by the PlastIndia Foundation in the category of ‘Innovation in Recycling Technology' for its innovation of a ‘Polyloom', a plastic weaving handloom that helps in reuse and recycling of discarded polybags.
- In May 2005, CEE was designated as the host agency for the LEAD (Livestock Environment and Development) India Platform. LEAD is a multi-donor supported global initiative, anchored in FAO, Rome . The LEAD India Platform has three major functions – creation of knowledge base, advocacy and communication for development.
- CEE organised ‘Education for a Sustainable Future' , the first international event of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, in January 2005. Over 900 participants from more than 50 countries contributed to the discussions. The outputs of the Conference, in the form of the Ahmedabad Declaration and Perspectives on the Draft International Implementation Scheme, have been shared at many international fora since then.
- On behalf of the Government of India, CEE facilitated several national preparatory processes for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), 2002. CEE was also called upon to prepare the National Report to UNCED, the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil held in June 1992. Other reports developed by the Centre for MoEF include CBD COP Report in 1994, for the Fourth CSD Session in 1996. The Centre also facilitated India 's preparatory processes for the World Parks Congress, 2003.
- CEE won the National Award for the ‘Best Effort in Science Popularization Among Children' during 1998-2002 from Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
- In 2002, CEE was designated the founder Secretariat of ‘South Asia Youth Environment Network' (SAYEN), a UNEP initiative for facilitating environmental awareness and youth networking activities in 8 South Asian countries.
- It was awarded the ‘Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar' (IGPP) for the year 1997 by the Government of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests, for the significant contribution in the field of environmental education.
- Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Director, CEE was presented the ‘Tree of Learning' award for 1988 by the Commission on Education and Training of the World Conservation Union (IUCN).
- CEE is the Secretariat for Environmental Education for the South and South East Asia Region (SASEANEE), a network initiated by IUCN-CEC and CEE.
- In 1994-95, CEE was designated the Subject Matter Focal Point for environmental education for the South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP).
- CEE is the Environmental Information System ( ENVIS ) node for EE in India . CEE has also been identified as ENVIS Node for Hospital Waste Management.
- CEE is designated as the National Host Institution for the Small Grants Programme of the Globe Environment Facility (GEF).
- CEE is one of the Video Resource Centres of the International Television Trust for Environment, UK .
- CEE was appointed as a resource agency for the National Green Corps project of the Government of India in the year 2000-01, which aims to provide opportunities for children to understand the environment and environmental problems through school Eco- clubs.
- In 2001, MoEF appointed CEE as the Nodal Agency for the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment ( GLOBE ) programme, an international, hands-on, internet-based, science and environmental education programme.
- In 1999-2000, CEE was appointed as a consultant to help the MoEF in the implementation of two sub-components of the World Bank assisted India Environmental Capacity Building Project, namely ‘Environment Education in the School System' and ‘National Environment Awareness Campaign'.
- Networking and Partnerships
- CEE members are invited as expert faculty and resource persons to national and international training programmes, seminars, symposia, and academic and professional institutions. CEE members have been sponsored for international training programmes under the Colombo Plan, of the British Government, USIS, etc.
- Recognition of CEE's expertise and resource base by national and international organizations is demonstrated by the ongoing demand for orientation programme and training; the use of CEE material by various agencies; requests for translation-adaptation of CEE's material into various languages, and request for use of CEE's illustrations, library and video resources.
- CEE has worked with a variety of partners including multi-lateral and bi-lateral funding agencies, such as GEF, USAID, IDRC, NORAD, Ford Foundation, Swiss Development Corporation, World Bank, Canadian International Agency, DFID, Royal Netherlands Embassy, ETC, MacArthur Foundation, Ausaid, National Lotteries (UK), Darwin Initiative of British Government, Canadian High Commission, UNESCO, Learning for Life (UK), etc
