In recognition of the need to extend environmental education to youth who are on the threshold of becoming active participants in society as citizens, decision makers and leaders, CEE has developed programmes aimed at reaching out to them and tapping their volunteer energy. Resource persons from CEE also directly interact with youth through lectures, seminars, workshops, projects etc.
The ‘Youth for Environment' (YEN) Groups at CEE was formed in 1994 to make youth aware of environmental realities and promote their involvement in improving the environment, through formal and non-formal programmes.

- SAYEN, a South Asia Youth Environment Network
The South Asia Youth Environment Network (SAYEN) comprises youth organisations from Bangladesh , Bhutan , India , Iran , Maldives , Nepal , Pakistan and Sri Lanka supported by the UNEP Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP). CEE is the National Focal Point (NFP) for SAYEN, and also hosts its Secretariat. Regular activities of the Secretariat include a quarterly newsletter, planning regional meets, enabling communication between NFPs and UNEP-RRC.AP, raising support for sub-regional projects, and maintaining the website www.sayen.org .
As part of its capacity-building for youth, CEE has since 1994 been running the Clean Green Project (CGP), a three-week long summer programme for youth in the age group 17-23 years. Through hands-on research and analysis of urban environmental issues, the participants develop action plans and communicate their recommendations through street plays, events and presentations.
- CYWEN, Club of Youth Working for the Environment
Club of Youth Working for Environment (CYWEN) is a youth club supported by CEE, working to improve urban environment. Its members meet every Sunday at CEE to discuss projects and activities. They use a number of media, from puppets to slide shows, to create awareness on urban environmental issues among college students and the general community; interact with experts and participants during training programmes organised by CEE; and develop and maintain communication media and material.
Prakriti is a mobile resource centre that has been developed with the support of British Gas and Gujarat Gas Company Ltd. It aims to involve youth in three districts of Gujarat – Ahmedabad, Bharuch and Surat – to create environmental awareness among school children, youth and the general community.
