Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Director, CEE, was invited to attend the twenty-third session of the UNEP Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum being held at Nairobi, Kenya from 21-25 February 2005.

He was a panelist at a joint special UNEP/UNESCO event on the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. The event focused on “Charting a Course to Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities for Local Actions”. It was an opportunity to share the podium with Director General UNESCO, Executive Director UNEP and Honourable Ministers from Sweden , Kenya and China ; and to present an overview, as well as the outcomes, of the ESF Conference at Ahmedabad.

This is a recognition of the value of our deliberations at, and outcomes of, the ESF Conference, and Shri Sarabhai used it as an opportunity to take these forward and, we hope, lead the way in the Decade.
