 Plenary Sessions

    Plenary I: Setting the Stage

    The Conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat, Shri Nawal Kishore Sharma. The session looked at the evolution of ESD and the Decade itself. The broad framework of the UN Decade and ways for its implementation were also shared in the session.

    Plenary II: Perspectives on ESD

    This session was presided over by Shri A. Raja, Hon’ble Union Minister for Environment and Forests, Government of India. The session brought in perspectives on ESD from different regions of the world and from a range of experiences in the field of environment and development.

    Plenary III: Discussion on UNDESD Draft International Implementation Scheme and Ahmedabad Declaration

    The Draft Implementation Scheme is the key document for the Decade. This plenary session presented the perceptions and suggestions from different thematic workshops on the Scheme. The interactive session in the Plenary also brought in a wide variety of inputs to the Scheme, which would also be useful towards its implementation. The Ahmedabad Declaration, developed by the participants, was also discussed.

    Plenary IV: The Way Forward
