The discussions at the Conference
were structured into several major themes, reflecting
the ESD concerns and issues that have evolved
in these sectors over the last several decades.
Each thematic workshop, in relation to the relevant
sector:
- Deliberated on the potential and scope for
Education and Communication (E&C) in the
approaches and strategies for sustainable development
in the sector, and the required E&C related
needs and thrusts
- Identified the present status of Communication,
Education, Participation and Awareness (CEPA)
in the sector
- Identified key stakeholders and target groups,
and how they can be influenced /enabled to enhance
their involvement and participation
- Discussed E&C experiences and identify
best practices
- Proposed E&C strategies to meet the challenges
in the sector, including identifying tools,
technologies, media etc.
- Identified key multipliers, institutions and
channels for CEPA
- Looked at the spaces available for learning
and sharing at different levels, and discuss
how to maximize their use
- Looked into capacity building needs for Sustainable
Development in the sector
- Discussed networking and partnerships needed
for effective E&C in the sector.
