 Recommendations from the Workshops
  5. Education for Water and Sanitation

Workshop Partner

Sharing of Learning

  • Setting up of a mechanism that gives easy – quick-access to information –creating spaces and platforms for sharing that has commitment, willingness and ability to share the successes and failures – Resource Centre Development is one such mechanism based on the current available resources
  • Training on documentation – analyses of data or field experiences are critical especially when addressed to sensitize the policy / decision makers.
  • Replication of the approach should be key for planning the educational interventions which focuses on adaptation.
  • Opportunities to be sought to involve private sector to partner in education for water and sanitation sector – hygiene awareness and action – soap manufacturing groups/units were considered as an example.
  • Rigorous planning, constant support, and varied approaches would be some of the ways for scaling up – wherein quality aspects are important, especially from the user group’s point of view
  • Scaling up in terms of qualitative indicators of internalization processes requires capacities and skills to be built at all levels – from donors to policy makers, to officials – Govt and NGOs and the community structures.
  • Government mechanisms have to be included within the scaling up process as they have the outreach.
  • Politics and its agenda should be separate from the development agenda so that the scaling up process is not hampered.
