Dr Thomas Hoffmann

Thomas lives in Baden-Württemberg, the southwestern state of Germany, and works as Head of Geography Department at the Teacher Training CenterKarlsruhe, where he trains pre-service geography teachers for secondary schools (Gymnasium). Beside this, he is Honorary Professor for Education for Sustainable Development at Leuphana University in Lüneburg as well as Lecturer for Geography Didactics at Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT)....With his interest in global challenges for several decades, he started to deal with ideas of education for sustainable development and global learning right from the beginning of the discussion in the 1990s. He has introduced these ideas into numerous geo-didactic articles as well as geography textbooks. Thomas is one of the founding members of the ESD Expert Net, an intercultural think tank on ESD, in which he heads the working group on the development of learning and teaching material. The combination of these experiences results in the insight that a profound competence in systems thinking is the core of contemporary education to enable citizens of all ages to understand the earth system and to contribute to the cross societal process towards a sustainable future.

Sanskriti Menon

Sanskriti is Senior Programme Director, Centre for Environment Education, and is based in Pune, India. She anchors CEE’s Urban Programmes and is involved in a range of urban issues including mobility, waste, ecosystems, and climate change. She is particularly interested in Education for Sustainable Development, and collaborative governance systems to address sustainability issues....Sanskriti comes to Systems Thinking with the hope of being able to facilitate multi-stakeholder processes that enhance systems understanding and collaborative action for sustainability. Sanskriti is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

Wendy Morel

Wendy has worked in formal education in natural sciences in Mexico for more than 20 years. Currently based between Mexico City and Berlin, she is carrying out her doctoral research at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin in the field of Education for Sustainable Development. In the last ten years, she has developed and facilitated programmes and international teachers training in ESD....As a member of the ESD Expert Net she has participated in the development of teaching and learning material. Wendy facilitates virtual exchanges related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals between schools from Germany, Mexico, India and South Africa through the Go! Global program. Her interest in Systems Thinking competencies arises from the need for quality education that enables and empowers the learners and teachers to become change-makers, along with the demand for material and support for teachers training.

Thamsanqa Nkosi

Thamsanqa lives in Pretoria, South Africa and is the Principal of a Secondary School in Emalahleni, Witbank. He has been working for the Department of Basic Education as a science teacher for years now. Thami, as he is affectionately known, has worked on the topic of SDGs on different projects. He is the co-founder of the Go! Global programme and has facilitated a number of virtual exchanges on the subject....He met up with his co-authors in the ESD Expert Net that has been in existence for years now and through this collaborative work has shared the passion for exploring and developing this material. Thami believes that enhancing our own and our learners’ systems thinking competence is the path towards a sustainable future.

Nicola Pape

Nicola lives in Bonn, Germany since her return to Germany from a two-year long stay in Harare, Zimbabwe. She has been working for GIZ as project leader on international capacity building in the field of quality education. Since 2012 she has been a project coordinator at Engagement Global in the ESD Expert Net programme. As a student of sociology and anthropology at the University of Bielefeld she had a chance to accompany the famous sociologist Niklas Luhmann during the world conference of sociologists hosted at the University of Bielefeld....Since this amazing experience she has read many books on systems thinking and realised that such an approach is very helpful for designing projects on sustainable development. Her passion is to develop and implement programmes on quality education and education for sustainable development. Over the last few years she has focused her work on the development of teaching materials for trainers and teachers in the field of Education for Sustainable Development together with the ESD Expert Net.
