About the Program:

In the context of increasing water scarcity competitive demands and widespread pollution, water resources have become one of the critical imperatives for livelihood. Drinking and Domestic water needs get the first priority among the various demands of water. “Kanthal Pvt. Ltd. and CEE” with a theme of water conservation, making use of waste water and beautification of the pond as a physical fitness spot as well as a place for environmental protection activities decided to take up the pledge to transform Bada Talab in to lively water bodies with restored aquatic ecology and saving the environment of the town. As untreated sewerage from the neighboring area enters the pond through the connected drainage systems, daily deposition of organic and inorganic material gives rise to eutrophication and decomposition of the same by a natural way is resulting into sludge accumulation. The project is purely focused upon the reinstating the natural ecosystem and making the water quality adequate to support life, with a clear and straightforward objective to remove all harmful aquatic weeds, increase the Dissolved Oxygen (DO) level, reduce Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), increase the depth of the water body, significant reduction of nutrient elements (like Nitrogen and Phosphorus access of which is harmful for aqua life to balance the ecology, and plantation of Phyllostachys pubescens or another equivalent for natural air purification and CO2 absorption. Developing the surrounding area of the pond to prevent it from illegal encroachment and making the space available for health and fitness and also presenting the pond as physical fitness spot as well as place for environmental protection activities.

About the Project: Centre for Environment Education is implementing a project on ‘Rural & Urban Landscapes Free of Dry Waste & Plastics’. This is one of the initiatives of HDFC Bank and CEE at the national level, implementing in 10 cities and 140 villages. The project aims to minimize negative impacts and risks to environment and to human health in the pilot areas in both rural and urban and promoting ZERO WASTE MODEL APPROACH - zero landfills, zero plastic burning and zero Emissions, and Zero wastages in Dry waste management in India.

The strategy is to have a multi stakeholders approach through an integrated model directed to address immediate causes with support from HDFC BANK and co-financing funding (both in-cash and in-kind) from the state and central government funds, NGOs/Companies Page 2 of 2 contributions as waste management agencies (WMAs), by establishing an Swachh Sustainable Business Models (SSBMs) for improved dry & plastic waste management by establishing – DRY WASTE Material Recovery Facilities as Swachh Centres (SCs), in line with the emerging MOEFCC GOI “National Resource Efficiency Policy” and the “National Materials Recycling Policy”.

The purpose of this assignment is to have effective reporting and traceability system in place under ‘Rural & Urban Landscapes Free of Dry Waste & Plastics’ in 12 cities and 140 villages.

The role envisaged is to support the Programme Coordinator in implementing the school environment education programme. The role involves contributing to development of locale-specific materials and educational activities, supporting the conduct of teacher orientation
workshops, orienting, and managing volunteers and interns, preparing and managing a database of schools/ teachers, and the EE activities undertaken by them. Regular visits to schools are expected
to be done on several days every month as well as participation in meetings with the municipal authorities and school authorities as per need.

CEE aims to conduct outreach activities and events for schools, youth, and community groups on biodiversity, climate change, waste, water, wastewater management. UNICEF in partnership with Centre for Environment Education (CEE) proposes to Scale Up and Strengthen Climate and Environmental Education Access to Youth in Karnataka through systematic integration of relevant curricula and skilling into existing college networks services that are reached by last mile communities in urban and rural settings. Further to ensure that Climate and Environment Education (CEE) is institutionalized and thus available for the future generation of learners and champions. UNICEF intends to work together with key government stakeholders, academic institutions, and youth representatives to develop CEE curricula in states that are currently seeking support in developing it. In addition, it will build the capacities of teachers and/or professors in targeted institutions to have the skillsets and employ the most impactful pedagogical approaches for imparting CEE to their learners through Partners. UNICEF and CEE committed to training 80 master trainers and 350 faculty members on Climate and Environment Education and through them ensured around 30000 students access to Climate and Environment Education through a cascade approach in the state of Karnataka.

UNICEF in partnership with Centre for Environment Education (CEE) proposes to Scale Up and Strengthen Climate and Environmental Education Access to Youth in Karnataka through systematic integration of relevant curricula and skilling into existing college networks services that are reached by last mile communities in urban and rural settings. Further to ensure that Climate and Environment Education (CEE) is institutionalized and thus available for the future generation of learners and champions. UNICEF intends to work together with key government stakeholders, academic institutions, and youth representatives to develop CEE curricula in states that are currently seeking support in developing it. In addition, it will build the capacities of teachers and/or professors in targeted institutions to have the skillsets and employ the most impactful pedagogical approaches for imparting CEE to their learners through Partners. UNICEF and CEE committed to training 80 master trainers and 350 faculty members on Climate and Environment Education and through them ensured around 30000 students access to Climate and Environment Education through a cascade approach in the state of Karnataka. 

Purpose

Scaling Up and Strengthening Climate and Environment Education Access to Youth in Karnataka 

Programme Area and the specific project involved

Climate Change Education, Environment Education and Education for Sustainable Development. 

Objectives

To capacitate 105 Master trainers to facilitate the faculty training program for 400 faculties and in turn enable the faculty to orient around 30,000 students on climate change and environmental education. To build the young generation’s capacity in taking leadership roles in their communities, be champions for environmental causes, and be key communicators and influencers in campaigns. 

Key Deliverables

  • Support to develop a Central Training Support Unit including role, member agency details and action points on Climate and Environment Education
  • Coordination with the technical team to develop a Training Management Information System for the project
  • Orientation to different staff groups on data entry and data analysis. Help in generating periodical reports for the project team.
  • Review the strategy, plan, and resource materials and facilitate the development of capacity-building strategy and capacity-building activities
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and organize the trainings and workshops as specified in the proposal
  • Coordinate/facilitate all project-related workshops and meetings
  • Preparation of the training plan – for Master trainers and faculty
  • Arrangement of resource persons for the facilitation of the trainings
  • Undertake field visit to the colleges/institute during training and visit universities
  • Take a lead in the implementation of the operational plan
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and organize the trainings and workshops as specified in the proposal

Requirements:
