Optimally utilize existing and new media networks as powerful means of reaching of the Community at large.

The media is a powerful means of reaching the community at large. CEE has developed a strategy to optimally use existing media networks to raise general awareness on the environment and its relevance to development. Special projects at CEE have experimented with a variety of media to successfully produce materials and programmes for EE.

Press

The existence of over 20,000 newspapers and periodicals in the country offer potential access to a significant section of the urban population as well as opinion leaders in the rural areas. However, environmental concerns are often not adequately reflected in these newspapers, mainly because authentic and readily usable material does not regularly reach them.

CEE, through its News and Feature Service ( CEE-NFS ), disseminates environment-related news items, features and articles to newspapers, NGOs and individual subscribers. The material is supplied monthly in English and Hindi for the non-exclusive use of several newspapers and magazines.

The Green Teacher is an interactive CD to support teaching and learning about Environment. This medium offers an opportunity to combine content (concepts, data and activities) with a great variety of "virtual experiences" that enrich the learning by providing 'hands-on' or interactive possibilities.

The CD provides an orientation to the what, why and how of environmental education, various teaching-learning methodologies that are available for an Environmental Educator, as well as information and activity ideas on a variety of themes and topics that are covered in the school curriculum. The contents of the CD will be a useful resource for enhancing the joy of teaching and learning about the environment and greening education in the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014).
