The critical role of education to enhance climate action was recognized in the Article 6 of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement, globally referred as Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE).

Doha Work Programme (DWP) an eight-year programme for Action for Climate Empowerment was adopted for the period 2012-2020, identifying six elements for achieving the ultimate objective of the Convention, UNFCCC.

EDUCATION

TRAINING

PUBLIC AWARENESS

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

PUBLIC ACCESS TO INFORMATION

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

The Doha Work programme is coming to an end next year and its final review will be carried out at COP 26 in 2020. UNFCCC is thus formulating a new work programme for ACE for the decade starting 2020 and inviting stakeholders to share recommendations and inputs.

Centre for Environment Education is leading a global consultative and consensus building process, in partnership with other organizations including The Climate Education, Communication and Outreach Stakeholders Community (ECOS), to enhance the implementation of Article 6 of the Convention and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement and make a significant contribution to ACE work programme, post 2020.
