EPCO

Environmental Planning and Coordination Organisation Training:

The main focus of CEE’s Industry Initiatives was technical capacity building of many stakeholder groups on various emerging aspects of preventive environmental management. This included developing and implementing a framework for institutional strengthening; improving preparedness of the news media to grasp issues in environmental compliance at the regional level; strengthening partnerships for knowledge and technology transfer involving small and medium enterprises; and developing a roadmap for industry-related EE activities in North America.

CEE developed a detailed framework for assessing information needs of decision-makers at the district and state levels, for senior professionals at the Environmental Planning and Coordination Organisation (EPCO), Bhopal. They, in turn, successfully used the framework to develop district-specific environmental information modules conveying appropriate messages on state-of-the-art tools to integrate developmental and environmental action, in addition to highlighting local initiatives and opportunities to access technical and financial support from across India and elsewhere. This was achieved through a series of capacity building workshops, helping EPCO reposition itself as a leader in the field of environmental planning in Madhya Pradesh.

Extensive inputs were provided on various aspects of developing the State of Environment reports including tools for qualitative and quantitative assessments of perturbations, prioritisation of issues and decision support systems in integrating driving force, pressure and response parameters. These activities were carried out in response to a call from ERM-India to provide technical assistance for the stated purpose.
